Because of Them, We Must.
In May, Key Assets Stirling Office was a proud supporter of the Family Matters National Week of Action and held a morning tea for staff and foster carers to raise awareness and open up discussions on bringing about real change to actively reduce the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care.
During this week of action, Family Matters wanted to highlight the fundamental issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Most importantly, working to shine a light on the disconnection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from community, culture and country.
Staff and carers were encouraged to write on coloured hands their comments, ideas and hopes that could bring about change to reduce the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out of home care.
Although a small gathering there were many big ideas and hopes to see a better future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids – not only for the next generation, but for the children who are here today.
