Farewell and thank you to Trisha Porter
After 7 years of bringing an enormous amount of joy to the children and young people who are placed with Key Assets carers, Trisha is retiring to spend more time with her husband. Initially Trisha was involved in making up the Welcome Boxes, with a former Key Assets employee, who she knows personally. Together they came up with the concept of creating something personalised and unique for children and young people coming into care and the beautiful blankets were born! Children and young people are consulted as to what their favourite image is, or the carer would provide some guidance. Trisha would then search for those images and was able to magically embroider the picture alongside the name. Trisha said that her favourite bit was using her imagination and adding her personalised touches to the creation. Her favourite pieces were the Aboriginal art and animal images. Mostly Tricia said that she enjoyed hearing how loved the blankets are and knowing what special children they were going to. “They love seeing their names on the blanket, its something unique and just for them”. When asked, Tricia reckons she has done in the region of 150 blankets. Her biggest challenge was an order of 36 blankets which were gifted to Key Assets WA staff in honour of the region’s 10 years of service.
If you know of anyone who would be willing to fill Trisha’s talented shoes and continue with this most valued service, please introduce them to us!
