The Spirit of Christmas

Put on those Santa hats, hang that tinsel and clean up the crumbs from that milk and cookies – because do you know what day it is? It’s Christmas Day! Christmas is a time to put our troubles aside and celebrate the things that are important to us. It’s a time to celebrate family, friendship and happiness.

This year has been nothing stray of difficult, and even though it’s Christmas, the difficulties haven’t stopped. There are some people who aren’t able to spend the festive season with their families or loved ones. Whether it be because of restrictions, distances or other issues, some will go into the festive season not feeling the Christmas spirit. To those people, and to everyone out there, know that you are not alone. There is someone out there that you’ve made a difference in their life, big or small. Your input has impacted the lives of more people than you will ever realise.

Something I like to celebrate around Christmas is traditions. Whether it be a new tradition or an old one, it’s the perfect time to celebrate! Some families may celebrate the festive season with a family meal, listening to Christmas music on repeat, playing a board game or going for a dip in the pool. Whatever your tradition be, the important thing is that it lets you feel joy.

Gift giving is a part of everyone’s Christmas. Regardless if you have a physical gift wrapped up under the tree, or a gift that we can’t feel or touch. A gift that everyone deserves to feel around Christmas is love and support. We show love to our friends and family all year round, but now more than ever is a time where people need to truly feel it.

To our carers out there, you have opened your heart and home to children who may not have ever felt the true meaning of Christmas. You show love and commitment to the children in your care, a gift that will never go unnoticed.

Make the most of your time with your loved ones. In person or virtually. Christmas is a time to celebrate traditions, happiness and family. Christmas is about bringing the greatest happiness to everyone. Merry Christmas!
